This session is designed to celebrate your unique love story; I am so excited about joining you on your journey to what promises to be a magical wedding day!

You’re engaged! Now that you have shared the ring shots on social media for the world and friends and family to see, let’s put frosting on the cupcake with some magical engagement photos to celebrate the special occasion. Think of your engagement photo session as a trial for the wedding. So, it’s just like a makeup trial, but with photos. This will be your chance to get to know your photographers and get comfortable with them. OK DO NOT freak out. I know all the questions running thru your head already. What am I going to wear? Where should we take them? Don’t be nervous I have it all covered for you below. Plus, I will be with you every step of the way as your wedding photographer. WE got this!

Consider who you are as individuals and as a couple. When you’re coming up with a plan for your session, think about what would most represent you. A favorite hangout spots. Are you both beach lovers. Or prefer a quiet afternoon walk in the park. Where you first met or even at your wedding venue. All perfect things to consider when choosing a location. If your still unsure turn to your wedding photographer for advice and popular as well as unique hidden locations. We highly recommend doing a hair and makeup trial for your wedding day and the day of your engagement is the perfect time to give it a try! If you can get your make up done in the morning, then do engagement photos followed up with a nice dinner and a movie, you can make a really great day out of it. Plus, you will be able to see how well your makeup and hair holds up for the whole day

NOW the hardest part and biggest question WHAT TO WEAR?

As always, rules are meant to be broken and if you are on the fence about an outfit please feel free to ask us beforehand or bring it along to the session. for some advice! – Coordinate colors. For example, Match your primary dress color with his tie or shirt. LOOK great together without looking too “matchy”. One thing to remember is they don’t have to be the exact same color. The same color family would work well too (example: bold purple and light purple). – Coordinate colors. A great example would be if you wear a green dress have your fiancé wear a green tie or shirt. But don’t get to matchy one simple item to tie the colors in together works well. One thing to remember is they don’t have to be the exact same color. The same color family would work well too. For example, a dark hunter green with a light mint color.

You can choose either light or dark tones, whatever colors you like best and what compliment you the best. Here are a few color palettes we think would be great options for your photos:

Grey and various shades of pink

Blue and yellow

Tan, light blue and brown

Dark blue and dark green

Dark green, navy and burgundy

Tan, light olive green and denim

Black, grey and white (or try any other color in replace of grey… think red, pink, blue?)

Dark purple, light purple and denim

– Coordinate styles. Guys make sure you match the overall “feel” of your girl’s outfit. If she’s wearing a dress, make yourself look a little nicer. If she’s down to earth with sweet jeans and spiced it up with a pair of fashion boots then jazz yourself up a little with a snazzy tie or jacket and nice leather shoes.

– Wear solids or simple patterns. Don’t overdo it with the patterns. Solid dark colors are the most flattering. Always love guys with a solid shirt and girls with floral patterns to match.

– Consider your location(s). Think about where you will be shooting with us. Are you going for a soft natural/rustic feel? Then sticking to soft neutral colors may be a great option. Are you going to be shooting in a city or urban area? Then brighter colors or a more “dressed up” approach may work with the setting better. Beach scenes work well with pastels and white color schemes. It doesn’t hurt to look turn to pinterest and look at from similar locations and see what other people wore. It’s a great way to see what you like.

– Stick to more fitted clothing. Anything hanging off your body (baggy) will make you look bigger than you are and look messy.

– The layered look is always a winner for downtown settings. For example:

Guys: Nice dark jeans, hip shoes, collared shirt and a loose tie. A jacket to finish it off.

Girls: Nice jeans, paired with a dressy top, splashes of color or patterns, funky jewelry and high heels. (or cute dress).

– Jazz up your outfit with a cute pair of heels or a funky necklace (or cute purse!).

– It is always best to bring a few different outfits so that you can change for your specific location. Bring an additional outfit to change into. Guys a quick shirt change and ladies if you are wearing a dress in one spice it up and throw on some jean and a nice pair of heals.

– Most importantly: Be comfortable and have fun with it! You will have a much better time which will make for better photos.

Things Not to Wear

– Bright white matching shirts and Khakis

– Tops with big logos or a lot of writing on them

– keep it clean and classy.

– Shirts with short hemlines and mid-drifts. Dress for your shape.

– Super Short skirts

Props for your engagement session. Your engagement session is all about the two of you so if Monster Truck is your favorite past time to watch together bring out your favorite fan gear. If you are a huge lightning fan bring those hockey sticks. Holding custom signs up is very popular way to display your #hashtag or the countdown to your big day. The possibilities truly are endless when it comes to what your signs say. A side note about chalk signs… if you use chalk boards, use chalk pens. The chalk pens look so much better and it goes on easier. It goes on thick and smooth so it shoes up nicely in the photos.

Engagement session with your fur baby

If you didn’t know this but I love fur babies. We have four and they are absolutely the loves of our lives. Neither one of us could ever imagine taking a photo, engagement, wedding, whatever without our dog. If you feel the same about your fur babies, then please bring them to the photo shoot. Bringing your four-legged friend to cozy up with you and your fiancé during the engagement session makes for some cute family portraits. Bring a sign that says, “My humans are getting married.” Don’t forget a cute leash with matching collar or even a bowtie to make your pup look chic. Treats and a squeak toy are not a bad idea either.

Another fun way to make your session unique and fun is to bring props. For example, some fun props are:

– Sunglasses

– A “Thank You” or “Save the Date” sign for personalized thank you and save the date cards. Remember: it’s always great to get your engagement photos out there for everyone to see!

– Balloons (or one big balloon! Please note: Balloons are not allowed in national and state parks)

– Hats

– Anything else that makes your relationship unique or that is special to you. Game, sport, hobby you share.

Engagement Session Benefits! This is a great opportunity where we get to know each other better. To interact and become comfortable with each other before the wedding. Your photographer gets to see how you interact
